RECYCLE THE CITY is dedicated to solid waste diversion through reuse and recycling in New York City, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. In doing so, we promote social and environmental justice and community building.
Our Vision
RECYCLE THE CITY envisions a day when all reusable materials are responsibly redistributed throughout our city until they reach the end of a full and multi-purposed lifecycle. Diverting materials from our waste stream and landfills saves millions in tax dollars and fundamentally reshapes our relationship with all materials, from the mundane to the fantastic.
Our Philosophy

Why spend money on something if you can get it for free from someone who would be happy to know you're using it?
1. Socially, our program makes it easier for people with less to have more for free.
2. Environmentally, our program helps minimize landfill waste through solid waste diversion.
3. Community building comes in the form of connections between residents and their local retailers, vendors and neighbors, and the opportunity to put each other's things to a better use.
